Common questions
No labels appear over the camera
- Labels only appear when you’re pointing at open landscape in daylight. Indoors, at night or facing a wall, Wild Lens lists what’s around you instead.
- Check that Location is set to “While Using the App” with Precise Location on, in Settings, Wild Lens, Location.
- Each animal group has a maximum label distance (about 3 km for mammals, 1.5 km for birds). Try a larger search radius, or switch to the map to see everything.
- Some places simply have few recorded sightings. The map shows how many records were found.
Labels point the wrong way
Your compass may need calibrating. Move away from cars, metal railings and magnets, then wave your phone in a figure-eight a few times. Make sure Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, System Services, Compass Calibration is on.
Using Wild Lens without signal
With Pro, open the map, tap the download button and save an area of 2, 5 or 10 km before you leave. When you lose signal inside that area, Wild Lens uses the saved sightings, photos and map automatically. Species pages need a connection.
Restore Wild Lens Pro on a new phone
Sign in with the same Apple ID, open the Pro screen and tap Restore. Lifetime purchases and active subscriptions come back right away.
Cancel a subscription
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Wild Lens. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. Apple’s guide: If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple.
Request a refund
Refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds directly.
Back up or delete my life list
Your life list lives on your phone and is included in your iPhone backup. Deleting Wild Lens deletes the list and its photos. To ask about data held by our analytics or purchase services, email us; see the Privacy Policy.
A species looks misidentified
Records come from the iNaturalist community. Open the species page in Wild Lens and follow the iNaturalist link. Signed-in iNaturalist users can add identifications to observations there, which corrects the data for everyone.
